1 cup of white sugar
1 cup of molasses
3/4 of cup lard
1/2 cup of hot water
2 eggs
6 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 of teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons of ground ginger
- In a large bowl, mix together sugar, molasses, lard, and hot water until they’re smooth. Stir in the eggs, combine the baking soda, flour, cinnamon, salt and ginger; stir it with the batter to make a soft dough. Add more flour if needed. Cover the bowl and refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour, or until the dough is firm.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit(175 degrees C). Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured and smooth surface. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Place cookies onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake the dough for 10 in the preheated oven, or until cookies appear to have hardened in the center. Then later you can decorate it with powdered sugar.
